Today's Readings
Reflection
In today's readings, we see the tragic consequences of disobedience contrasted with the call to spiritual growth. Jeremiah 43-44 reveal the remnant's fatal choice to flee to Egypt despite God's warning, while Jeremiah 46 pronounces judgment on Egypt. 2 Peter 1 calls believers to actively grow in faith and knowledge, making their calling sure through obedience and spiritual maturity.
The key insight we can draw from these passages is this: Seeking security apart from God leads to destruction, while growing in faith through obedience leads to fruitfulness and assurance in Him.
Let's break it down into a simple principle:
Reject false securities and actively pursue spiritual growth through obedience to God's Word and cultivation of godly character.
Here are five practical steps we can take to apply today's readings:
- Identify one area where you're seeking security in something other than God.
- Write down one specific way you've grown spiritually in the past year.
- Choose one quality from 2 Peter 1:5-7 to intentionally develop this week.
- Spend 15 minutes in Scripture asking God to make His Word real to you.
- Share one thing God has taught you recently with another believer.
As you go about your day, reflect on this question: What "Egypt" are you tempted to run to instead of trusting God's direction?
